iphone XR Review
The iphone XR sits right in between XS and iphone XS max with a 6.1 inch display. Well apparently the difference isn’t that notable. Still is harder for most people to reach the corners.

THE CAMERA

The single camera on the XR is the exact same one on the XS minus the second telephotolens. Subtracting that telephoto lens had some interesting implications that aren’t all negative. Telephoto lens is good for two things; optical zoom and portrait mode. But the sad truth was that telephoto lens has always been a worst quality sensor and image just let in less light.
In low light conditions, the iphone will realize that the optical zoom coming from the darker lens is actually not as good as the primary. So it will just take the digital zoom from the primary lens anyway.
XR has no telephoto lens but that affects a lot less zoom scenarios that we actually realize and often times we will get better results. They remapped the background blur to look more like a wide angle optic than telephoto minus the depth detection.

THE BUILD

Its builds differently than XS but same looking design and no stainless steel, iphone XR has anodized aluminum sides which means they can color match them to match the glass backs. There are six new colors and one that stands out the most other than the INFAMOUS RED is the new blue color.
Also the XR is IP-67 water resistant where the XS was IP-68. Then there is this slightly different locations for antenna bands. The XR is missing a couple of just a pair of visible bands that on the XS and XR since it lacks these bands doesn’t have gigabit LTE.
The build quality of XR is really good. But the aluminum it’s even more slippery than stainless steel, prone to sliding out of your pockets if you aren’t careful.

THE DISPLAY

This is the biggest difference versus the iphone XS, sole reason why apple was able to make this cost $250 less and the also the controversial part of this phone. Iphone XR has what apple calls a liquid retina display. Ignoring the fancy term it’s actually an LCD with curved corners (1792×828). The panel itself has great color and brightness and pretty good viewing angles and believe it or not it’s crisp enough for regular use, but less sharp than XS.
The easiest way to make XR’s display seem bad is by looking at the specs sheet without even looking at the display. It’s less than 1080p and 326 ppi and can you guess the other device that had 326ppi?
The iphone 4. Strangely enough iphone 8 also had 326ppi and that was fine and most people didn’t complain and it was a great display.
